- Inhibits xanthine oxidase → ↓ uric acid production.
- Clinical Notes
- Chronic gout urate-lowering — not for acute flares (can trigger one; cover with colchicine/NSAID). Allopurinol hypersensitivity/SJS (HLA-B*58:01); reduce azathioprine dose if combined.
