- Mechanism of Action (MOA)
- Competitively blocks the benzodiazepine site on the GABA-A receptor → reverses benzodiazepine sedation.
- Black Box Warning
- Risk of seizures — can precipitate life-threatening benzodiazepine withdrawal seizures, especially in dependent patients or mixed (e.g., TCA) overdose.
- Clinical Notes
- Reversal of benzodiazepine sedation (e.g., procedural). Avoid in chronic benzodiazepine users and suspected TCA co-ingestion; short half-life → resedation may occur.
