Mechanism of Action (MOA)
Replenishes hepatic glutathione, detoxifying the reactive acetaminophen metabolite NAPQI; also a mucolytic.
Clinical Notes
Antidote for acetaminophen overdose — most effective within 8 h (dose by the Rumack-Matthew nomogram). Anaphylactoid reactions with IV use.
