Activates uterine oxytocin receptors → rhythmic myometrial contraction; also drives milk letdown.
Clinical Notes
Labor induction/augmentation and first-line for postpartum hemorrhage. Watch uterine tachysystole/rupture and fetal distress; hyponatremia (ADH-like effect) with prolonged high-dose infusion.
