Inhibits carbonic anhydrase → ↓ aqueous humor and bicarbonate reabsorption → ↓ intraocular pressure and mild diuresis.

Open-angle and secondary glaucoma, and preoperatively in acute angle-closure; acute mountain sickness prophylaxis; also edema and epilepsy. Sulfonamide; metabolic acidosis, paresthesias, hypokalemia, nephrolithiasis.
