Mechanism of Action (MOA)
Selective β1 antagonist → ↓ heart rate, ↓ contractility, ↓ AV conduction & myocardial O₂ demand.
Black Box Warning
Ischemic heart disease — do NOT stop abruptly: abrupt cessation can cause severe exacerbation of angina, MI, and ventricular arrhythmias. Taper over 1–2 weeks.
Clinical Notes
Succinate (ER) is the HF-approved salt; β1-selective.
