- Mechanism of Action (MOA)
- Binds the 50S ribosomal subunit → inhibits protein synthesis (bacteriostatic).
- Black Box Warning
- Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea/colitis (ranges from mild diarrhea to fatal colitis) — reserve for serious infections where less toxic agents are inappropriate.
- Clinical Notes
- Anaerobes above the diaphragm, MRSA/strep skin infection, toxin suppression in nec fasc/TSS. Classic cause of C. difficile colitis.
