- Mechanism of Action (MOA)
- Inhibits DNA gyrase & topoisomerase IV → blocks DNA replication (bactericidal).
- Black Box Warning
- Tendinitis & tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects; may worsen myasthenia gravis; reserve if no alternative.
- Clinical Notes
- Strong gram-negative (incl. Pseudomonas) coverage; chelated by cations; not first-choice in children; generally avoided in pregnancy.
